The land – Quilaco
A 5-hectare lot in the foothills of the Araucanía. 3.5 hectares of it are bosque nativo: real, untouched temperate rainforest with coigües, notros and ferns.
From the house you look straight at the volcano, and on clear nights you can sometimes see it glow. Everything runs off-grid: water from a spring and from collected rain, and a solar system that keeps the lights on for about four days without sun.

House-sitting
When I travel, I look for people to live here and look after the place: in the guest house, the cabin, or with their own motorhome in the meadow.
It suits people from Europe who want to experience southern Chile from the inside: quiet, nature, a wood stove in winter, and a bit of practical work. I speak German, English and Spanish.
What you'd take care of
- Feed and look after the animals
- Keep the houses clean and heated
- Supervise a helper who comes occasionally
- Small repairs, changing gas bottles
A car is not included, so you'll need your own transport or a rental. Dates and conditions we agree directly. If this sounds like you, write to me.
Where you stay
Two houses for guests, both with their own kitchen and bathroom, and a few pitches for motorhomes. Ideal for sharing: a house-sitter in one house, travellers in the other and in the meadow.
Camper pitch
I've travelled Chile and Argentina by camper for many years and met many great people on the road. That's why I offer a few pitches on the land to fellow overlanders and cyclists, with a fantastic view over the Trancura valley to Villarrica volcano.
- Free pitch in the meadow, very quiet and safe
- Spring water
- Fire pit, grill and table; no other infrastructure
- Private land with forest and meadow, no mosquitoes
In return: evenings at the fire with other travellers, keeping the place clean, and by arrangement looking after the land and feeding the animals. You'll also find the place on iOverlander.
Where I live
Pucón and Villarrica sit on Lake Villarrica in the Araucanía, between the Pacific coast and the Andes, in the heartland of the Mapuche. Summer brings the crowds to the beaches; spring and autumn are quieter and better for hiking.
Close by: climbing Villarrica volcano, the forests and lagoons of Huerquehue National Park, the El Cañi reserve, many hot springs, and Lanín volcano just across the border in Argentina.
The map shows the area. For the exact way to the land, ask me.
